Mystic Princess Review

February 23, 2018

I was able to squeeze in some time for me recently and had the pleasure to read a wonderful book called Mystic Princess by Kelli Marie.  First off, I would like to say how impressed I was with the cover of this book.  It is very engaging and makes you want to pick up the book and read it.  I find this one of the most defining aspects of a book that can make it look either professional or unprofessional and I believe that nailed it!

Mystic Princess was right up my ally.  The main character, Cara, is strong female character that is the last of the Mystics, an ancient human race that can control the elements, but she has been sheltered all of her life from the true world around her.  In a blink of an eye she finds out her whole life has been a lie and she bares the burden of being the savior of her people.

There is also a wonderful love triangle that shows you how easily it is for someone to fall into a very possessive and controlling relationship without realizing it until it is too late.  A very important undertone for the main audience (young adults).  You will find out in Kelli's author interview that this is an important aspect of the story that she wanted to shine through.  The backdrop of superhuman powers and mystical creatures made for a wonderful start to a series, and the cliff hanger ending made me looking for more.  I am very excited to see what Kelli Marie has in store for us next.

If you are looking for your next great YA fantasy read, this is it.
